Dubbo West Rotary's first Online Christmas Raffle has been hailed a success after the raffle concluded with the draw on Wednesday 23 December 2020.
The draw was held in public view at Club Dubbo, and conducted by one of their staff members. It was live-streamed through their Facebook page with the winners called shortly afterwards of their win.
First prize winner of the $5000 JB Hi-Fi Shopping Spree was Gordon Hammond of Mt Riverview, who purchased just one ticket for the win.
Second prize winner was Luka Group Dubbo, who generously gave the Rotary Club a donation of $600 in the raffle.
Third prize winner was Faye McLellan of Dubbo.
Normally, the Rotary Club would spend three months leading up to Christmas at the various shopping Centres, selling Raffle tickets in their raffle of a Trailer, filled with Camping and other goods. However, due to Covid-19, the Club decided to try looking at a new way of fundraising by doing it online, through Rafflelink. All the public needed to do was to go to the Rafflelink website or use the specially created QR code.
The club spent the three months advertising on Facebook, in their local free newspaper, radio, club website, large stands at shopping Centres, as well as A4 and DL flyers. A large proportion of DL flyers were distributed throughout Dubbo by members walking the streets and dropping them into the people's letterboxes. As the Covid-19 cases were contained with no community transmissions, a few of the members sat down at Centro and was able to get tickets sold to the public via face-to-face, with the data being transferred onto the online system.
As yet, the final figures had not been finalised, but the Club did a large amount of ticket sales, resulting in a positive, successful fundraising. These funds will now go back into the community to continue the work that they do.
It would not have been possible to have a successful fundraiser without the support of local businesses who donated goods or to the public for purchasing the tickets.
