Rotary District 9670 officially welcomed its new District Governor last night when Helen Ryan became the third woman to be appointed as the region’s Rotary leader.
Mrs Ryan of the Rotary Club of Nelson Bay will hold the position for the next 12 months.
Spanning from Newcastle in the east to Bourke in the west, District 9670 is home to over 1,100 Rotarians committed to serving and building their local communities.
During her tenure, Mrs Ryan hopes to increase Rotary’s involvement in communities across the District by working with Clubs to develop strategic plans on how to best help local people.
“As a service organisation, Rotary has an important role in our local communities and I want to continue the fantastic work Rotary has been doing on a grass-roots level.” Mrs Ryan said.
“Rotary has offered me an amazing opportunity to work with a diverse group of people committed to serving our local area. By working together, we can make our communities stronger”.
A Rotarian for close to two decades, Mrs Ryan has dedicated much of her spare time to working with stakeholders and community members across the Port Stephens and Hunter region to develop strategies and projects that support and assist society’s most vulnerable.
“During my time as a Rotarian I have been involved in programs that have given people a second chance. Rotary does such great work in our communities and I want to bring my experiences as a Rotarian to my role as District Governor”.
Mrs Ryan will spend the next 12 months increasing awareness of Rotary’s involvement in local activities that contribute to social cohesion and promoting Rotary International’s campaign to eradicate Polio, whilst advancing Rotary’s 2017-18 theme, Rotary: Making a Difference.
